Before anyone operates on you, ask three questions
Piles, fistula, fissure and hernia surgery are common operations, and the person holding the instrument matters more than anything else on the brochure. Every registered doctor in India has a public record you can check in under a minute. This page gives you the three questions, explains which register is which, shows Dr. Kundan Kharde's own answers, and walks you through checking any doctor in Maharashtra.

Ask for the full degree names and the college that awarded them, not just the initials.

The doctor you consult and the doctor who operates should be the same person, and should say so.
Which register?
In India, doctors practising modern (allopathic) medicine — MBBS, MS, MD — are registered with a State Medical Council such as the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) or the National Medical Commission. Practitioners of Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha (BAMS, MS-Ayurveda/Shalya Tantra) are registered with the Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine, and homeopathy (BHMS) with the Maharashtra Council of Homoeopathy. These are separate systems of medicine with separate councils and separate registers. 'MS' can be a degree in either system, so the register — not the initials — tells you which system your surgeon trained in.

How to check any doctor in Maharashtra
Search the doctor's name (or registration number, if they gave you one). On the result, check two things: the qualification listed, and the council that holds the entry. If the name is common, match the registration number and the year of registration.
