Piles in older adults — why the approach differs

Piles are vascular cushions that become symptomatic when they swell, bleed, prolapse or thrombose. That mechanism is the same at 30 and at 70. What changes with age is everything around it: medication, comorbidity and the threshold for investigating bleeding.
